Welcome to Colac Toastmasters Club
The proven way to become a better speaker!
In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members. The group took the name Toastmasters.
Hello, and welcome to Colac Toastmasters. If you're interested in improving your communication skills you've come to the right place. Like Dr Smedley's original club, Colac Toastmasters is a friendly and supportive group, and we love to greet new visitors. Come along to one of our meetings. A free supper is provided for our guests.
What's in it for you?
The Colac Toastmasters club will give you the skills and confidence to speak well in any situation. Whether it be a prepared speech at a wedding, a job interview, or negotiating for a raise, excellent communication skills are vital. Our members come from all walks of life, including trades people, professionals, students, and retirees. What we've all learnt as members is that Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills.
Some of the communication skills you can expect to learn are the ability to deliver a great speech, either prepared or impromptu, and improve social confidence. This is the type of confidence where you can speak up and state your view in any social setting, or have the courage to say hello and strike up a conversation with someone new.
How does it work?
The Colac Toastmasters club is made up of between 8 - 12 members Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
It's important to add, that visitors are under no pressure to speak on their first night, nor are they under any pressure to join immediately. We actually encourage visitors to visit our club meetings several times before they commit to joining the club.
